COMPTON, CA — Bennie Tinson, candidate for Compton City Council, District 2, will participate in the upcoming ‘You Choose Compton 2026 — A Community Forum & Debate.’ The debate will be held on Saturday, May 16, 2026, at the Greater Zion Church in Compton. The Primary Election is on June 2, 2026.
“This year’s election marks an historic shift for the City of Compton, as local elections align with California’s statewide cycle for the first time,” said DeMira Pierre, event producer. ‘You Choose Compton’ is a premier, nonpartisan civic platform that centers community voices and provides high-visibility engagement between candidates and residents.

The evening will feature a Youth/Young Adult Salon that brings the next generation into the civic conversation, followed by the Compton Candidate Debates.
Moderators for the debates are Bishop Michael JT Fisher, with Tammi Mac or Leslie Sykes.
Tinson will take part in a moderated 15-minute debate segment, addressing specific questions about candidate platforms and taking questions directly from the audience.
In addition to the District 2 race, the forum will feature candidates for Mayor, District 3, City Treasurer, and City Clerk, as well as representatives for Assembly District 65 and LA County Sheriff.
Members of the community and media are encouraged to attend this pivotal event to witness the democratic process in action as Compton prepares for this milestone election.

As a long-time resident, Compton Unified School District graduate, Community College Professor, SEIU Union Organizer, and City employee, I am prepared to serve as your City Councilman.
