CAMBRIDGE / AGILITYPR.NEWS / April 14, 2026 / Bulgin – a leading manufacturer of environmentally sealed connectors and components – is proud to be sponsoring engineering education through the STEM On Track programme at King’s Ely school in Cambridgeshire. The initiative gives students the opportunity to design, build and race a go-kart, connecting classroom learning with real-world engineering applications.
STEM On Track provides students with a ‘kart in a box’ to assemble over the academic year, before taking part in a test day and competitive racing. While the motorsport element provides an engaging goal, the programme is primarily focused on developing practical engineering, teamwork and problem-solving skills, offering students a hands-on understanding of how engineering principles are applied in practice.
Sean Dorling, a mechanical engineer at Bulgin, plays an active role in the initiative. Since October 2025, Sean has been volunteering weekly with students, primarily in his own time, while also dedicating some working hours to support the programme. He has drawn on his broad experience – in both mechanical engineering and endurance karting – to educate students on how assembly and set-up impact performance. Bulgin is also supporting the initiative by funding key kart components used throughout the project.
Sean’s involvement demonstrates his commitment to STEM education and giving back to the engineering community, as well as being a key component of his journey towards becoming a Chartered Engineer. Sean commented: “Engineering is something you learn best by doing, and this programme gives students a great opportunity to get hands-on experience, understand how things work, and see the outcomes of their decisions. It’s been really rewarding to coach them as they build their skills and confidence, and I hope programmes like this help to inspire students to follow practical engineering pathways.”
