Electric collection fleet reinforces San Pablo’s leadership in sustainability and emissions reduction

WHAT: Republic Services and the City of San Pablo have partnered to introduce California’s first fully electric residential recycling and waste collection fleet. The completion of San Pablo’s electric fleet transition establishes the City among the first in the nation to reach full deployment of a zero-emission electric residential recycling and waste fleet.

The fleet serving San Pablo includes five McNeilus Volterra EVs, the industry’s first fully integrated electric recycling and waste trucks. Developed with insights from Republic Services, these trucks prioritize safety in addition to producing zero tailpipe emissions.

Republic Services and the City of San Pablo share a strong commitment to advancing sustainability. The City’s transition to an electric fleet supports its Climate Action Plan by reducing greenhouse gas emissions and advancing its 2035 goal of cutting emissions 30% below 2005 levels and regional health initiatives by improving local air quality. Republic Services continues to advance circularity and decarbonization through Sustainability Innovation investments, with municipal fleet electrification serving as an important element of that strategy.
