Midland Pallet Trucks has launched a new version of its Triton MID-EPT20A-BR fully electric pallet truck - fitted with an integrated load backrest, designed to provide extra support for taller and less stable pallet loads. While load backrests are commonplace on forklifts, they are far less common on pedestrian-operated pallet trucks, despite many businesses routinely transporting high or awkward loads.

Phil Chesworth, Managing Director at Midland Pallet Trucks, said many operators simply accept unstable loads as part of warehouse life until something goes wrong.

"People have all seen videos of pallets collapsing or products spilling across a warehouse floor, but the reality is that these incidents happen far more often than most businesses realise," he said. "It doesn't always end with thousands of pounds' worth of damaged stock, but even one pallet shifting can stop work, create a clean-up job and introduce unnecessary risk for everyone nearby."

Rather than relying solely on careful stacking or stretch wrap, the load backrest provides an additional point of support behind the pallet, helping prevent taller loads from shifting backwards during transport. The feature becomes particularly valuable in operations where goods are moved repeatedly throughout the day.

"In sectors such as wholesale and cash and carry, pallets are rarely moved just once," he said. "They might be unloaded, transferred into storage, replenished onto the shop floor and moved back again. Every journey creates another opportunity for an unstable load to move. Adding a backrest is a relatively straightforward change, but it can make operators feel much more confident when handling taller pallets."

The new model retains the specification of Midland Pallet Trucks' existing fully electric pallet truck, including a 2,000kg lifting capacity, brushless DC drive motor, lithium battery, regenerative braking and compact pedestrian design.
