Pensacola Dentist Offers Pain-free Dentistry Through New Laser Technology!

PENSACOLA, FL / AGILITYPR.NEWS / November 05, 2019 / Pensacola Dentist Offers Pain-free Dentistry Through New Laser Technology!

Pensacola, FL- If you’re one of the nearly 65 million people who have signs of gum disease, there’s great news in the world of dentistry. DenMat introduced their new micro laser this year, a safe, effective and pain-free treatment which reduces chair time, can eliminate the need for anesthetic, and offers quick and effective results.

Dr. Stephanie Tilley, a Pensacola, Florida dentist, uses the new diode laser in her office for general cleaning as well as other procedures. The small laser is about the size of a Sharpie, and is very non-invasive.

“With this tool, I can often do things without numbing the patient,” says Dr. Tilley. “Our patients are responding very positively. We say laser and people think Star Wars, but this is light energy. If it’s done correctly, often times the patients may feel a little warmness and that’s all. They really appreciate the positive experience we can give them, and they are willing to come back to do more.”

LeAnne Ahler travels over 100 miles for the laser treatment that her office provides, because it’s the best dental treatment she’s found. “I’ve always had a fear of dentists, and this is awesome,” says Ahler. “With the laser, I didn’t feel a thing. I didn’t even know they did it.” The laser is used for bacterial reduction on Ahler during her cleanings, instead of the usual pick. “I feel it’s working for me, and I have increased my dental treatment. I used to go every six months for maintenance and cleaning, and now I go every three or four. I’m very impressed.”

While laser dentistry has been around since 1994, the newer DenMat laser is a smaller, easier to handle device that more dentists are willing to try. It’s safe, effective, and available almost anywhere. Dentists are using it for:

  • Gum disease: To reshape the gum area and remove bacteria.
  • Biopsy or lesion removal: Can heal sores or stop a canker sore before it really starts.
  • Tooth decay: Used to remove decay within a tooth and prepare the surrounding enamel for receipt of the filling. No more drilling!
  • Surgery: Faster healing time and less invasive.
  • General dental cleanings

“As a hygienist, I use it to help lower the amount of bacteria in the mouth,” says Stephanie Pajot, who works out of the Bingham Farms office. “It helps with inflammation and discomfort. It can also stop a cold sore and canker sore where it’s at, so that it doesn’t progress. Discomfort after an appointment from a cleaning or any procedure is far less. Because you’re killing bacteria without using medication, you can’t be allergic to it, and it’s much more cost effective than an antibiotic and serves the same purposes.”

Dental care is important, and what many people don’t realize is that it’s the foundation to a healthy body.

“Dental care is a great holistic approach of getting the entire body fixed,” says Tilley. “At the lowest level, gum disease causes sore, bleeding gums when you brush. Later, it can become periodontitis, which leads to bone loss, tooth loss, and overall bad health as your body is constantly fighting the bacteria that goes into your bloodstream. Maintaining your teeth is probably the most cost effect way of being able to function, because it really effects overall health.”

The new diode laser is successful and quick to use, and is becoming more widely available.

“I highly recommend the laser treatment,” says Pajot. “Some patients need it more often than others. If they’re someone who has a history of gum disease, they are less sore when they leave the office, and won’t need ibuprofen after a cleaning. Then, they notice less bleeding for a few months after. It’s really cool. I really love it.”

Gary Lesniewski felt a cold sore coming on, so went in. “The hygienist used the laser tool, and all I felt was a warming sensation, like someone putting a mini hair dryer on my lip. There was no pain involved at all. She did it once, waited a minute or so, and repeated the same process. To my surprise, the cold sore never formed. It was amazing! She said if you get there on the onset before it starts blistering, it’ll stop it. This was a great procedure, and the cost was around $40, but for someone who has ever suffered through a cold sore, you know it’s worth it. It would be great for people who are going to a wedding or some kind of event where they’re going to have pictures taken.”

“It’s exciting news that I want to be sure the public knows about,” says Dr. Tilley. “We teach dentists all around the country how to use this laser. It’s important that the public realize that this technology exists. My job is to educate, instruct and make people aware of what is available.”
