Positive List for Food Contact Plastics Updated by the EU

BAAR, SWITZERLAND / AGILITYPR.NEWS / February 25, 2026 / Baar (February 25, 2026) – SGS, the world’s leading testing, inspection and certification company, has published SafeGuardS 020.26, focusing on the EU update of its list of authorized substances for plastic food contact materials (FCMs) and articles.


Regulation (EU) 2026/245 was issued on February 3, 2026. This updates Regulation (EU) No 10/2011 governing specific measures for food contact plastics in the Union and includes a list of authorized monomers, other starting substances, macromolecules obtained from microbial fermentation, additives and polymer production aids under Annex I.


Important changes in the 2026 list include a revision of the chemical name and specifications for FCM substance No.768 and the addition of six entries, including FCM substances Nos 1093, 1094 and 1096, as well as the introduction of entry 31 in Table 3 under point 3 of Annex I that specifies the use of water rather than food simulants for compliance verification.


Following publication in the Official Journal of the EU, Regulation (EU) 2026/245 entered into force on February 23, 2026.
