Publication of EN71-8:2026 for Activity Toys

BAAR, SWITZERLAND / AGILITYPR.NEWS / February 24, 2026 / SGS, the world’s leading testing, inspection and certification company, has published SafeGuardS 027.26, focusing on the publication of European standard EN71-8:2026. This revision of EN71-8 has been driven by the EU’s Standardisation Request, which sets the agreed work program for toy safety standards between the European Commission and the European Committee for Standardization (CEN).

EN 71-8:2026, which sets requirements for activity toys, was published in January 2026. It now covers inflatable activity toys, and certain sections have been revised to clarify interpretation and testing issues.

Following harmonization and publication in the Official Journal of the EU, the standard can be used to demonstrate compliance with the Toy Safety Directive 2009/48/EC. No timeline for harmonization is currently available.

SGS experts publish SafeGuardS to keep stakeholders informed about regulatory changes that could impact their business. SafeGuardS 027.26 contains a useful table with information on the important changes in EN 71-8:2026, including product scope.

Stakeholders are encouraged to refer to the original SafeGuardS 027.26 for more details.
