Rochdale appoints new chief finance officer

Rochdale Borough Council has appointed Julie Murphy as its new chief finance officer. Julie, who had previously held the role of deputy chief finance officer role since 2017 has over 30 years’ experience in public and private sector finance. At Rochdale Julie has created a shared procurement service between three Greater Manchester authorities, and has led multi-million pound public health projects and change programmes. Her numerous board level roles include the Greater Manchester Technical Advisory Group. Mrs Murphy, who lives in nearby Bury said: "I am looking forward to continuing to work alongside our skilled staff and councillors in the delivery of good quality, sustainable services for the benefit of all our residents, businesses and visitors. A huge amount of progress been made in Rochdale in recent years and it’s an exciting time with many more opportunities in front of us.” Chief Executive Steve Rumbelow added: "Julie was an excellent candidate and I'm delighted she has been selected for this important role. As she has been with us for a number of years, she is ready to hit the ground running and is a top class finance professional.” Julie Murphy has worked at Rochdale Borough Council for eight years. Her appointment follows the departure of Victoria Bradshaw who joined Leeds City Council earlier this summer.
