BAAR, SWITZERLAND / AGILITYPR.NEWS / October 21, 2026 / SGS, the world’s leading testing, inspection and certification company, has published SafeGuardS 136.26, reporting on the expansion of the approved labeling language and symbols for 12 specified product categories containing intentionally added per- and polyfluoroalkyl substances (PFAS).
The expansion follows the enactment of SB 292 (Public Act No. 24-59) in 2024, which regulated PFAS in many consumer goods. This was codified as Section 22a-903c of the Connecticut General Statutes, which established notification and labeling requirements and prohibited specified products with intentionally added PFAS from January 1, 2028.
Beginning July 1, 2026, products in 12 specified product categories containing intentionally added PFAS are prohibited unless appropriately labeled. Connecticut’s Department of Energy and Environmental Protection (DEEP) has updated its website to, inter alia, specify the approved wording and symbols.
Manufacturers, importers, retailers and other intermediaries in the supply chain for the applicable consumer products sold or distributed in Connecticut will be affected by the updated requirements.
SGS experts publish SafeGuardS to keep stakeholders informed about regulatory changes that could impact their business. SafeGuardS 136.26 includes further information on the approved labeling language and symbols, as well as key requirements for affected products.
Stakeholders are encouraged to refer to the original SafeGuardS 136.26 for more details.
