SoundCellar will broadcast MANGORATA live, ahead of the Chicago all-star concert, also being broadcast worldwide on Thursday 30th April 2026.

UNITED KINGDOM / AGILITYPR.NEWS / April 09, 2026 / Dorset-based promoter SoundCellar will mark International Jazz Day on 30th April 2026, with a performance by Mangorata, a six-piece ensemble comprising some of the most promising young voices on the UK jazz scene. The SoundCellar gig will also be livestreamed globally, timed ahead of the official Global Concert in Chicago, headlined by Herbie Hancock, Jacob Collier and Marcus Miller.

Originally hailing from Leeds, Mangorata has cultivated a sound rooted in inventive improvisation, drawing from Afro-Cuban, Brazilian, and Funk traditions.

The band features two musicians recently honoured by the UK jazz establishment. Drummer Miles Pillinger is the recent recipient of the prestigious Peter Whittingham Jazz Award, while trumpeter Olivia Cuttill received the special Martin Hummel Award at the 2025 Parliamentary Jazz Awards last October.

The band’s inspiration draws upon the works of musical legends such as Herbie Hancock (co-curator of International Jazz Day 2026), Chick Corea, Wayne Shorter, Hermeto Pascoal and many more.

Trumpeter Cuttill said of the upcoming event:

“We're so looking forward to our SoundCellar debut, what better way to celebrate International Jazz Day!”

Co-programmer for SoundCellar, John Ferguson added:

“Having seen Mangorata play a superb set at We Out Here Festival in 2024, I am delighted to at last be presenting them here in Poole. It is entirely fitting that this young band of great musicians is performing at SoundCellar on International Jazz Day, especially as we are also livestreaming the gig, with a month to watch the whole performance, making it possible for anyone in the world to see them play.”

The event will be held at The Grasshopper, 139-141 Bournemouth Road, Poole, BH14 9HT on Thursday 30 April 2026 starting at 7:30pm. Tickets £17.50 (students £10 & U18s FOC. Livestream tickets £8.50. All tickets available through www.soundcellar.org
