St. Supéry Estate Releases Inaugural Rutherford Estate Vineyard Sauvignon Blanc

RUTHERFORD, CA / AGILITYPR.NEWS / June 06, 2024 / St. Supéry Estate Releases Inaugural Rutherford Estate Vineyard Sauvignon Blanc

Rutherford, CA

St. Supéry Estate Vineyards & Winery is thrilled to release the inaugural vintage of Sauvignon Blanc from its Rutherford Estate Vineyard on June 6th to coincide with the world premiere of Fed By Blue’s docuseries Hope In the Water, which will air on PBS starting on June 19th. To celebrate the winery’s partnership with Fed By Blue, $2 from each bottle sold of this wine will be donated to the ocean advocacy organization.

Located just north of the winery, St. Supéry acquired the forty-eight-acre parcel in Rutherford prior to harvest in 2023. The vineyard is planted to forty-two acres of Sauvignon Blanc, mainly Clone 1. Noted winery CEO, Emma Swain, at the time of purchase, ” We are excited to add to our Sauvignon Blanc vineyard holdings here in the Napa Valley. As one of the largest estate wineries in Napa Valley, we were yet to plant Sauvignon Blanc outside of our Dollarhide Estate Vineyard. The fruit from this new vineyard site in Rutherford is so nuanced and layered. Our winemaking team plans to ferment the blocks separately and trial various fermenting and aging techniques in 2023.”

The 2023 St. Supéry Rutherford Estate Vineyard Sauvignon Blanc is a wine of intense purity and character, opening with concentrated green citrus, grapefruit, white peach, a savory note of caper, floral, and flinty wet stone aromatics. Richly layered with bright acid structure and high-toned mineral notes on the palate. The wine fills the senses with perfumed Kaffir lime, lemon zest, gooseberry, a hint of wildflower honey, and an appealing passion fruit thread in the satisfying finish.

The 2023 growing season was entirely about patience. A long, wet winter and spring filled our lakes and nourished the soils. With the cooler start to the season, budbreak was several weeks behind average. Canopy management was vital to veraison, which occurred in mid to late July. A longer hang time allowed the fruit to catch optimum ripening, creating a superb vintage with bright, fresh white wines that show varietal flavors and textures. After achieving the desired flavors on the vine, fruit was harvested in the cool morning hours to preserve the delicate flavors. Once in the cellar, grapes were pressed to tank and immediately chilled and settled. Fermentation was completed in steel and concrete tanks as well as seasoned French oak barrels. The final blend was completed after 5 months of sur-lies maturation.

This limited, winery exclusive inaugural release celebrates the winery’s partnership with Fed By Blue, an ocean sustainability advocacy organization. Visit fedbyblue.org to learn more.
