The prominent site had remained vacant for several years and presented an opportunity for regeneration. It was acquired by Summerfield in 2024, with a pre-let agreed with Formula One Autocentres before redevelopment work began.
Demolition of the former garage began in November 2025, with construction of the new property commencing in January 2026. The development reached practical completion on 20th July 2026, with Formula One Autocentres taking occupation under a new 15-year lease on 25th July.
Formula One Autocentres opened its new centre on 3rd September 2026, joining Enterprise Rent-A-Car at the Priory Bridge Road site and helping to bring the previously underused location back into productive commercial use.
