The Wheels of Justice Have Ground to a Halt in Michigan

Since March 15 there have been virtually no jury trials

in the state of Michigan!

“In a state where we’ve figured out how to build cars and trucks, cut meat, deliver food and paper products to homes in a pandemic, we need to figure out how the court system in Michigan can deliver justice!”

Terry Cochran, Attorney

LIVONIA, MICHIGAN – Since March 15 there have been virtually no jury trials in the state of Michigan says trial Attorney Terry Cochran of Livonia’s Cochran, Kroll & Associates. “Thousand of cases have backed up to the point where justice is not being done,” says Cochran.

“Citizens of the United States have a right to have their case heard in front of a jury of their peers,” adds Cochran. “Since the COVID-19 pandemic people with real financial burdens and needs have been denied justice.”

“In a perfect world the attorneys for the insurance companies would sit down and negotiate a settlement. If the settlement was unreasonable the client (plaintiff) would be able to call for a jury trial,” says Cochran. “Now without the jury trial ‘sword over their head’ there’s no incentive to settle anything and that’s justice denied.”

“During the COVID crisis we all accepted this as a temporary situation for a few months. Now that this appears to be the ‘new normal’ lasting longer than first anticipated, the Michigan judicial system needs to create a fair and balanced jury trial virtually. We need to get this going now!” implores Cochran.

“I respectfully urge my fellow colleagues, judges, the governor and the attorney general to focus on this issue now.”

“In a state where we’ve figured out how to build cars and trucks, cut meat, deliver food and paper products to homes in a pandemic, we need to figure out how the court system in Michigan can deliver justice!” concludes Cochran.
