Published in January 2026, EN 71‑1:2026 establishes new requirements for the mechanical and physical properties of toys. It includes major changes from the previous version, EN 71-1:2014+A1:2018, specifically revising existing requirements for ride-on toys and introducing requirements for food-imitating toys. In addition, there are many other revisions intended to clarify interpretation and testing issues.
Following harmonization and publication in the Official Journal of the EU, the standard will be applicable for demonstrating compliance with the Toy Safety Directive 2009/48/EC. There is currently no timeline for harmonization.
