BAAR, SWITZERLAND / AGILITYPR.NEWS / June 05, 2026 / SGS, the world’s leading testing, inspection and certification company, has published SafeGuardS 076.26, focusing on the Netherlands’ new regulation updating migration limits for lead and cadmium in food contact ceramics.
Issued on May 4, 2026, the Regulation was adopted by the Minister of Health, Welfare and Sport of the Netherlands and amends the requirements for food contact ceramics under the Commodities Act (Regulation on Packaging and Consumer Products).
In addition to introducing stricter migration limits, the Regulation emphasizes the factors that economic operators must consider when assessing the migration of lead and cadmium and permits the application of Article 2(2) of Directive 84/500/EEC when insufficient compliance certainty can be demonstrated.
This amendment will impact supply chain stakeholders such as manufacturers, retailers, importers and other intermediaries operating in the Dutch market . It took effect on May 29, 2026, with transition arrangements in place for food contact ceramics complying with the Commodities Act as it stood on May 28, 2026, and that were placed on the market before December 1, 2026.
SGS experts publish SafeGuardS to keep stakeholders informed about regulatory changes that could impact their business. SafeGuardS 076.26 provides further technical information about the Regulation, including a helpful table on permitted migration levels for lead and cadmium in food contact ceramics.
Stakeholders are encouraged to refer to the original SafeGuardS 076.26 for more details.
